Youth Advisory Council

The Youth Advisory Council serves as a diverse group of young leaders who provide insight, feedback, and recommendations to guide and enhance the programming, outreach, and impact of Diamond In The Rough Youth Development Program, Inc. The YAC helps ensure that youth perspectives are authentically represented in decision-making processes.



Goals & Objectives:

  • Amplify Youth Voice: Elevate the ideas and opinions of youth to influence organizational decisions.
  • Develop Leadership Skills: Provide leadership development opportunities and practical experience in civic engagement and advocacy.
  • Foster Civic Responsibility: Encourage community service and participation in programs that promote equity and opportunity for all youth.
  • Strengthen Programs: Offer feedback to ensure programs are relevant, impactful, and youth-centered.
  • Build Community: Create a supportive network of peers passionate about leadership, service, and positive change.

 


Eligibility Criteria:

  • Ages 10-18
  • Demonstrated interest in leadership, service, or advocacy.
  • Willingness to attend regular meetings and actively participate in initiatives.
  • Commitment to upholding the values and mission of the organization.

 


Term & Time Commitment:

  • One-year term with the option to renew.
  • Attend a minimum of 8 meetings annually.
  • Commit to approximately 2–4 hours per month for meetings, planning, or events.

  General Duties & Responsibilities:


Advisory & Leadership

  • Serve as a liaison between youth in the community and the organization.
  • Provide input on the development and improvement of youth programs and events.
  • Participate in strategic discussions that impact youth initiatives.
  • Assist with identifying youth needs and interests in the community.


Event Planning & Support

  • Help brainstorm, plan, and support youth-focused events and initiatives.
  • Serve as ambassadors at events and assist with event logistics and outreach.
  • Promote events and encourage participation among peers.


Community Engagement

  • Represent the organization at community forums, events, or partner meetings.
  • Share ideas for community service projects and support their execution.
  • Promote inclusivity, advocacy, and service among peers.


Team Collaboration

  • Attend monthly Youth Advisory Council meetings (in-person or virtual).
  • Participate in team-building activities, leadership training, and skill-building workshops.
  • Collaborate with staff, board members, and other youth advisors as needed.


Communication & Outreach

  • Offer ideas for marketing and communication strategies targeted to youth.
  • Help create or review youth-centered materials (e.g., flyers, social media posts, surveys).
  • Act as a positive role model and champion for youth empowerment.

Meeting Dates:

As a member of The Youth Advisory Council, you should be prepared to attend YAC meetings on live or virtually on the following days:


  • Saturday, July 26th 10:00 a.m.  - 12:00 Noon (Live)
  • Tuesday, August 12th - 6:00 p.m. (Virtual)
  • Tuesday, September 2nd - 6:00 p.m. (Virtual)
  • Tuesday, October 14th - 6:00 p.m. (Virtual)
  • Tuesday, November 11th  - 6:00 p.m. (Virtual) 
  • Tuesday, December 9th - 6:00 p.m. (Virtual)
  • Tuesday, January 13th - 6:00 p.m. (Virtual)
  • Tuesday, February 17th - 6:00 p.m. (Virtual)
  • Tuesday, March 10th - 6:00 p.m. (Virtual)
  • Tuesday, August 14th - 6:00 p.m. (Virtual)

Service Dates:

As a member of The Youth Advisory Council, you should plan to serve in leadership in at least THREE of the following scheduled event:


  • Saturday, June 28th - Georgia  Mentoring Summit UGA (limited space available )
  • Saturday, August 23rd - Youth Leadership Conference in Macon
  • Saturday, September 13th - Gem Camp Kick Off (Live Event)
  • Saturday, October 25th - Walking In Confidence (Live Event)
  • Diamond Day of Service - Date TBA (late Nov/Early Dec - TBA)
  • Mentor Appreciation Event (late January/early February - TBA)
  • Saturday, March 21st - She's Got Confidence Global Summit


Note: There may additional (optional) service dates added to the calendar throughout the year. While not required, we would like those who are able to plan to join us on Saturday, April 2nd for our annual Year End Awards Ceremony.
